"Kisa-ology”
It is the practice where parties repeatedly negotiate with one another about their values and platform, in order to win the largest number of seats.
This is common among Israeli politicians, who focus on winning their seat by playing ‘musical chairs’, instead of worrying about the State and its citizens.
Consequences of this practice include the dissolution of the government- at a cost of millions of shekels- or the creation of new parties when Knesset members are not satisfied with their number on the list (in order to increase their chances of winning a seat).
Tactical Voting
The phenomena of voting based on tactical considerations. Instead of voting for the preferred candidate, the voter focuses on how the opposing candidate can be prevented from winning the seat.
First Past The Post Voting (FPTP)
“First-past-the-post” elections, or ‘the winner wins all’, is a purely direct-election method. In this method, the candidate with the highest number of votes in each constituency is the winner – even if the majority of voters did not vote for them.
